a rating of all the frogs in my neighbors’ frog-themed bathroom

very round and good! his face shows an emotion that i can’t quite describe. 10/10

here we have an arts and crafts frog! he has a nice figure but his lack of eyes is unsettling. 6/10

this is a truly excellent frog, he’s going places and he doesn’t care how long it takes. 12/10 for realism.

this frog looks like he’s having a cheeky little giggle at you for being in the bathroom for so long. something about him unsettles me. 2/10

Lower heating bills with this wacky multifunctional Japanese invention

Looking like a cross between a low table, futon, recliner and a comforter, this heated piece of furniture helps keep people warm in the winter.

Many of us get creative in trying to cut down the heating bill in winter. So far, we’ve seen people use tents indoors, DIY candle heaters, and of course, good ol’ fashioned layering with woolly socks and sweaters.

In Japan, land of quirky customs, quirky inventions and even quirkier homes, some warm up in winter using what looks like a cross between a low table, futon, reclining couch and a comforter. It’s called a kotatsu, and there’s a special heater built in underneath the table that warms the extremities of all who gather ‘round it. Or even sleep under it, as this writer recounts during her first winter in Japan.

And apparently, it can lower heating bills too, as Martin Frid explains on these pages some years ago:

Sitting by the kotatsu heating table, under a thick blanket, is still the way for entire families to keep warm on winter evenings. Rather than heating up the entire house, the cosy kotatsu is a comfortable way to spend a couple of hours together, with a much lower energy bill by the end of the month.

Did you know that when Japanese people start wearing lolita fashion (Victorian England and Rococo era France costumes with Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by the English author Lewis Carroll), kogal and schoolgirl uniforms (European naval uniforms), mori and fairy kei (inspired by European fairy tales especially those by the Brothers Grimm and the general idea is taking inspiration from Snow White or Rapunzel or Red Riding Hood or Hansel and Gretel), Vivienne Westwood (British designer who is extremely popular in Japan), and punk (taken directly from 70s British punk, featuring heavy use of Scottish tartan and the Union Jack flag, to the point that one of the main punk boutiques in Harajuku is called Union Jack) it means Japanese people now own it and you are not allowed to wear it and you can appropriate your own culture if the Japanese like it too?

Ity wasn’t JUST talking about the outfit/style, it was personality as well and how they acted. They changed their entire life to something completely different because they didn’t feel unique enough.

Don’t just change who you are and copy someone elses style, personality, etc because it’s unique in your eyes and you want to feel special. Be who you are because you are special and unique in your own ways with your own likes and dislikes, and personality, and style, etc etc.

The character doesn’t actually LIKE the style she’s dressed in nor how she’s acting she’s just doing it to be special and the gifset doesn’t show is that she changed her personality and pushed her friends away to do it.
